Patients/Clients /People at the Hope Centre



In the last few days people have visited the centre for advice, treatment and therapy.

Prolapsed lumbar disc- short wave diathermy

Cervical spondylosis- traction provided

Hearing impaired - audiogram and ear checks performed . ( Hearing aids are supplied by the centre which are donated by Australia and NZ (Phonack)

CVA - 55 year Left hemiparesis.

CP- 3 years of age ? spastic diaplegia- cruising, pulling up to stand and walking with a trolley.

CP - 10 years of age - Spastic quadipleagia- unable to walk but weight bears with supports , has had no schooling at all . Arrived on a motor cycle without helmet with his father.

MBA - a group of youn males arrived at the centre and requested crutches for another friend who had been injured in a motor cycle accident and now unable to walk ,( he couldnt get up to the centre due to centre being inaccessible to people with mobility restrictions and no transport Access will hopefully be rectified in the near future when the road is sealed .
The crutches are either locally made of bamboo or wooden adjustable height crutches made in Kathmandu.

Left below elbow amputation 18 year old boy - due to # radius and ulnar- he reieved local treatment in the village : a wooden splint. The fracture wound became infected gangrene set in and this resulted in amputation.

Osteo arthritis - young woman. Advised on medication and exercise , as well as some 'counselling'

No medical notes , person arrives at centre sometimes with a note from the DR or to register their disability to access services

Interventions provided .
- registration of disability
-assessment . I have not observed any formal assessments as yet
-physiotherapy treatment using a range of reasonably new high tech equipment....
- counselling - very brief
-equipment provision- crutches ( 1 - 250 rupees , 2- 500 rupees) 50 rupees = $1.00 NZ
- audio grams and supply of hearing aids ( 5,000-8500 rupees! ) In NZ $4-5,000 minimum!
- ear cleaning

Home visits are part of the service but I have yet to visit any homes of people that have attended the centre . We have had numerous invites and visited several homes of the very welcoming locals though! Drinking Nepali sweet milky tea and eating local fresh produce .
