Leaving Paris
We left Paris on the 10th to head for Normandy where we are undertaking the 'work' in lieu of food and lodgings.
Looking back at our time in Paris there were a many highlights - the food, wine , fashion, art galleries, architecture, gardens and green places, statues , Le Viaduc des Arts - amazing studios under an old viaduct where traditional french 'crafts ' are still alive/ master craftsman- metal furniture making , antique lace restorers, hand painted porcelain, violin, flute and cello makers and repairers, frame makers, and hats and umbrellas to name a few . Predominantly appointment only from what we gathered although some of the craft work could be seen through the windows.
The weather has been scorching - 30-33 degrees, we have eaten late at night( 9-10 pm, still daylight), walked our feet off, paid some ridiculous prices for water and beer, and eaten escargots , gambas and saumon.
They have bikes in racks all over the city that you can 'hire' if you can get your credit card to work in the machine and wish to take your life into your own hands around the ARc de Triomphe or in the cycle lines which are shared with the buses at times- not for me!
What will I remember about the French in Paris ? - the queuing etiquette: how long they take to do things , the public displays of affection with couples ( please get a room!) , most if not all the descriptions of the art works are in French with no English translation unless you buy an audio and on a really positive note if you are a student ,studying art and or under 26 all entry to the Museums is free! Fantastic.
