We have accommodation in the Chatara village with Gorkol , a local school principal, and his wife Usa . Their youngest son also lives with them. He had encephalitis some years ago which unfortunately resulted in a hemiparesis, seizures and some learning problems.
When compared to other villagers, they family are very well off. They own the land, or I should say Gorkols father and mother do, and they live in a house behind this house. We are paying 150 rupees and night and 100 rupees per meal each( two meals provided a day) . Usa and Gorkol have made our stay very comfortable and we have had so many laughs, them trying to teach us Nepali and us attempting.
The entrance to our room downstairs . Gorkol and Usa live above us .
Our room and the most essential mosquito net.
The view from the top balcony
Usa in the main kitchen/dining ( above ) and ( below) in the more traditional kitchen,at the back of the house , where she prefers to cook the rice pudding and roti , over a clay oven fire .
Roti making , what a culinary skill to make them puff up.
The cow in the back yard that produces our milk.
