Voluntourism.

Volunteer tourism- voluntarism is a booming industry in developing countries and there are numerous websites to surf when deciding which cause or project to support, to which overseas company to work voluntarily for in order to enhance your career !

The main groups of people embarking upon this venture appear to be middle aged people, recently retired, to students on a gap year having completing their study seeking to add to their CV’s ( we met two such English HR graduates who were going to Mumbai to work volunteering for Kingfisher airlines for a few months prior returning to the UK to seek permanent employment. They said the experience would improve their job prospects)

To volunteer in most projects there is a fee to join , you are expected to pay for living costs, and an make a donation to the project. Large sums of money can be exchanged for this privilege, e.g. up to $6000 US for 3 months ( 2 people) . When looking into the projects on offer, and having decided on a worthwhile cause , you are advised to ask some straight questions- what percentage actually goes toward the project, how much goes into administration and what is the cost of living expenses .
